New Features

Enhanced Granular Permissions

QMetry 8.27 enhances its existing permission framework, adding finer-grained control in areas that previously relied on a single, broader permission such as Automation, Customisation, and Integration System, alongside new categories like System Settings. The updated model reorganises administrative capabilities into dedicated permission groups, so organisations can grant users only the access their role requires, reduce reliance on the Super Administrator, and strengthen governance and security.

Permissions across System Settings, Automation, Customisation, Integration System, Open API, and QMetry Intelligence have been restructured for more granular access control and simpler administration. Existing role permissions are automatically mapped during the upgrade, so users retain their current access without any manual reconfiguration.

Recommended: With these changes, System Administrators should review existing roles and their assigned permissions in light of this release, and adjust them so each role holds only the access it genuinely needs, consistent with your organisation's governance and security requirements.

Key Highlights
System Settings Permissions

  • A new System Settings permission category provides granular control over organisation-level administration, including:

    • General Settings & SMTP Settings

    • AI Settings

    • Identity & Provisioning

    • Administrative Controls - Transfer Super Administrators and Restore Deleted Users

    • Access to all dashboards and gadgets created by any user

  • Important: Only the Super Administrator can assign or modify these permissions for any role. To maintain security, the newly introduced System Settings permissions are not automatically enabled for any role during the upgrade. The Super Administrator must review and explicitly grant these to the appropriate roles.

Automation Permissions

  • Automation permissions are now split into three independent permissions:

    • Automation API.

    • Automation Agent.

    • Automation Template (Custom Parsers for Result Imports)

    • Existing Roles with Manage Automation permission are automatically assigned all three during the upgrade.

Customization Permissions

  • Customization permissions are now split into three independent permissions:

    • Manage Lists

    • Manage Fields, Layout Management & Execution Status

    • eSignature Settings - This includes creating approval levels and managing users under these levels.

  • Existing roles with the Modify Customisation permission are automatically assigned the corresponding new permissions during the upgrade. Organisation-wide customisation capabilities, previously managed through Modify Customisation, are now controlled by System Settings permissions.

Integration System Permissions

  • Integration System has been renamed Integration System (Jira/Azure) for clarity, and split into two dedicated permissions:

    • Administer Integration Systems - Governs the setup of organisation-level integrations with Jira and Azure DevOps, and the management of system-level integration settings such as OAuth settings, syncing external fields to reports, and Basic Authentication for Jira Data Centre

    • Project Integrations Configure - Controls the mapping of Jira/Azure project integrations with QMetry projects, including new project mappings. Roles with only the Modify Project permission can continue to manage existing mapped project and work-item mappings.

  • Only the Super Administrator can assign or modify these permissions to roles.

  • Important: With this release upgrade:

    • Existing roles with the Modify Integration System permission are automatically assigned both Administer Integration Systems and Project Integrations Configure.

    • Existing roles with the View Integration System permission retain that access under its renamed equivalent, View Integration System (Jira/Azure).

Open API Permissions

  • Open API permissions are now managed separately from Integration permissions, providing more granular control over REST API access. During the upgrade, any roles that previously had Integration permissions will automatically receive the corresponding Open API permissions, ensuring a seamless transition.

QMetry Intelligence Permissions

  • A dedicated QMetry Intelligence Project Settings section now groups permissions for Intelligent Search, Flaky Score, and Success Rate. This reorganisation improves permission discoverability and does not change existing user permissions

Deprecated Premissions

  • The Integration Permissions and Modify Audit Compliance permissions have been deprecated. Their capabilities have been redistributed to the appropriate System Settings permission groups.

New System Settings Menu

  • A new System Settings menu centralises organisation-level administration. General Settings & Audit, SMTP, LDAP/SAML, and SCIM configuration have moved from the Customisation and Integrations menus into this dedicated section.

Changes to Default Admin Role

  • For the system default "Admin" role, only the Super Administrator can assign or modify permissions for Integration System (Jira/Azure) and System Settings. All other permissions remain enabled by default and are not editable, maintaining consistency with previous releases

Custom XML Automation Template

QMetry Test Management 8.27 introduces Custom Automation Templates, enabling teams to import automation execution results from custom or proprietary XML report formats without writing custom import scripts. Users define templates that map XML report elements to Test Case Run, Test Step Run, and Test Suite fields, giving them full control over how results are imported.

The automation files can be imported using these templates via the Automation API and the Jenkins, Bamboo, and Maven integrations, ensuring a consistent automation import process across teams and pipelines.

Miscellaneous Enhancements

  • New QMetry Brand Logo – QMetry Test Management now features the new QMetry brand logo, delivering a refreshed, consistent visual identity throughout the application. This update is purely visual and does not impact existing functionality or user workflows.

  • Improved User Experience for AI-Generated Test Cases – The linked test case count and test case list are now refreshed automatically after generating test cases using QMetry Intelligence from the Requirement Details screen. A loading indicator is displayed while the operation is in progress, providing clear feedback and improving the overall user experience.

  • Usage Analytics Settings – QMetry now collects anonymised usage data to help guide feature adoption and product improvements. This is managed through a new Data & Analytics Sharing setting under General Settings, which the System Administrator can enable or disable at any time. Usage analytics is set ON by default for Cloud customers. No test data or information entered in QMetry is shared with SmartBear.

Integration Add-on and Extension Upgrades

Jira, Azure DevOps, and Exploratory Testing Extension

To ensure compatibility with QMetry Release v8.27, customers using the Jira, Azure DevOps, and Exploratory Testing extensions must update to the following versions:

  • Jira Data Centre:

    • v10.x – QMetry Integration for Jira app v2.4.3_jira10

    • v11.x – QMetry Integration for Jira app v2.4.3_jira11

  • Azure DevOps: QMetry Test Management Extension v1.2.1

  • Exploratory Testing Extension:

Jenkins, Bamboo, and Maven Integrations

To ensure compatibility with QMetry Release v8.27 and enable support for Custom Automation Templates, customers must update the QMetry Test Management integrations for Jenkins, Bamboo, and Maven to the following versions

  • QMetry Test Management Plugin for Jenkins v1.16

  • QMetry Test Management Plugin for Maven v1.0.10

  • QMetry Bamboo Integration App:

    • Bamboo v9.0.0 – v9.6.27: App version 2.0.0

    • Bamboo v10.x – v11.x: App version 3.0.0

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that caused some scheduled automation imports to intermittently fail by remaining stuck in the "Processing" state, resulting in incorrect Scheduled Task status updates.

  • Fixed a bug that caused filters applied in the Link Requirements screen to incorrectly carry over to the requirements already linked to an Issue.

  • Fixed a bug that caused BDD feature file tables to be omitted or formatted incorrectly when importing test cases using the Import from Scenario functionality.

  • Fixed a bug that caused Jira synchronization to fail when multiple project syncs were triggered concurrently across different QMetry projects.

  • Fixed a bug that caused Robot Framework 7.x result file imports to fail, preventing test cases from being created during automation import.

  • Fixed a bug that caused delays when loading the project selector after switching projects.
