Managing Releases and Cycles

Important

  • Permissions for release or cycle can be managed from Roles under Customization.

  • Create and clone project operations will auto-create the new project's default release and cycle.

You can add a release or cycle to a project for organizing and managing test activities.

Adding Release

During project creation, QMetry assigns a default release to each project. You can add new releases to the project by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Release/Cycle tab and click the + icon.

  2. Select Add Release.

  3. Enter the release name, release start date, and release completion date in the respective fields, then click Add.

  4. The new release will be added to the list.

Adding Cycles under a Release

Cycles are added in respective releases. During project creation, a default cycle is assigned. You can add a new release to the project by following these steps:

Note

  • Users cannot archive or delete the system's default release or cycle.

  • Users with project rights assigned to their role can access the project.

  1. Click the + icon and select Add Cycle.

  2. A blank row will appear to enter cycle details.

  3. Select the Release in which the cycle will be added.

  4. Enter the Cycle Name, Cycle Start Date, and Cycle Completion Date in the respective fields, ensuring the cycle dates fall in the Release Start and End Dates.

  5. Click Add.

The cycle will be added under the selected release.

  6. Expand Release to view Cycles added under it.

  7. Expand Release to view Cycles added under it.

Editing Release/Cycle

You can easily update a project's release and cycle. Here are the steps to edit release/cycle.

  1. Hover the mouse over the field values, and the Edit icon becomes visible.

  2. Click the Edit icon and change the required value.

  3. Save individual values after editing.

Archiving Release/Cycle

You can archive releases/cycles that are no longer needed. Archiving does not delete the release/cycle from QMetry; this option just hides the project.

Note

Archiving a release or cycle requires Editing Release/Cycle Permissions.

Deleting a Release/Cycle

Follow these steps to delete a release/cycle:

  1. Archive the Release/Cycle: To begin, click the "Archive" button in the Action column of the respective grid to archive the release or cycle.

  2. Confirmation and Archival: The release or cycle will be archived after confirmation. Note that archived releases or cycles cannot be edited.

  3. Action Options: Once archived, the Action column will display "Unarchive" and "Delete" buttons for the archived release or cycle.

  4. Delete the Release/Cycle: To delete, click the "Delete" button. Remember, a release or cycle must be archived before it can be deleted.

Note

If a Release is archived, then all the Cycles under the Release are also archived.
